Adam Smeets

Indian Prairie School District 204
Chief Technology Officer
Greater Chicago Area
Hello! My name is Adam Smeets I am the Chief Technology Officer at Indian Prairie School District in Aurora, IL.

Previously, I was the Assistant Vice President and Deputy Chief Information Officer at Dominican University, providing leadership for the "application" side of IT, leading cross-functional teams in partnership with the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) to enrich the relationship between technology and pedagogy. This included developing ongoing strategies for the effective implementation and education on the use of technologies for teaching and learning. I also served in multiple roles and capacities within Information Technology. These roles ranged from creative support and interface development to programming and development guidance. I served on multiple committees within the institution, as well as teaching courses with a focus on technology, business, and application/web development.

Formerly, I was the Manager of Digital Media Services for Academic Technology Services within the Division of Information Technology Services and adjunct instructor at Loyola University Chicago. In these roles, I managed the campus lab environments at both the Lake Shore and Water Tower campuses, including the Digital Media Lab and student advisors (undergraduate students). This included an Equipment Loan Program, training courses, online application and server development, as well as one-on-one consultations for students, faculty and staff.

I focus on engaging and blending technologies that address organizational/institutional problems. Whether this involves blending PHP (or other coding languages) or integrating existing systems with new technologies, I find a joy in making the pieces fit from the formatting, procedural and functional perspectives. I hold a Bachelor degree in English and Secondary Education from Loyola University Chicago, as well as a Masters in Educational Technology and ABD in Educational Leadership from the University of Delaware. I am currently working on my Doctor of Education (EdD) in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola University Chicago with a dissertation focus of self-efficacy and competency variability in pre-service teacher education.
