Add Standards-Based Feedback To Your Schoology Gradebook

We will start by showing how a single letter grade provides very little information as to what a student needs to learn or submit in order to earn a higher grade. We will then share information on how learning standards provide specific expectations that take the guesswork out of what students need to master in the course.
A classroom example from our applied technology teacher will be shared where he ties in learning standards, and from a student’s point of view participants will see all the additional data that students get when their teachers align standards to their assignments and quiz questions.
We will then demonstrate how we accomplished this. We will demonstrate how to add learning standards into their courses in Schoology, how to tag their assignments and quiz questions to one or more standards, and how to adjust the Mastery settings to change the reporting view for the teacher.
The difference between Standards-Referenced Feedback and a Standards-Based Gradebook will be explained to show that teachers can either continue to give letter grades PLUS provide feedback based on standards (SRF), or they can complete change their grading practices by tying the letter grade to their overall mastery of the learning standards (SBG).
We will briefly tie-in other topics related to the Mastery feature in Schoology including the use of four-point grading scales like Marzano’s as well as aligning standards to grading rubrics.
