We designed this one-semester course to appeal to both male and female students. It has problem-centered experiences, opportunities for integrated thinking, and plenty of modeling challenges. The students literally think on their feet, collaborate with their team, and in a specific time duration design a solution, test it, fix bugs, retest the solution, and demonstrate the required Microcontroller application. Since there are different solutions based on the program code, they have plenty of opportunities to “wow” each other. We had over one-third female enrollment in the class. In this presentation, we will discuss the Arduino kit (we will have loaner supplies for attendees to use), show our curriculum, student projects, and also provide hands-on experience for all attendees. The course can be adapted in a middle school or high school setting and we believe that the students would find it exciting given the hands-on nature of the course.
