Using Digital Badges For Motivation In the Classroom

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Grades are an evaluation of a student’s performance in class. But do grades motivate students? When students are motivated to learn and participate they become more engaged in the classroom instruction and activities. One method of motivation is the use of badges. Similar to patches worn by the Scouts, medals earned in the military, and achievements won while playing video games, badges are used in the classroom to encourage students to work towards goals that will benefit them and their classroom. Learn how to use badges to increase motivation, awareness, proficiency and engagement throughout the classroom in ways that go well beyond grades. You will learn about the research behind badges as well as the methods of creating and awarding badges.
