Our school has provided student-led, project-based learning to high school students through our January Short Term (JST) program for over 45 years. Recently, we expanded JST into our middle school with P3: the Personal Passion Project. Students choose a topic and spend two periods a week on it. They use the design thinking process to create something related to their passion. We pair each with an adult expert mentor (alumni, parents, etc) so they can increase not only their knowledge of the topic, but also learn how to network with others (a valuable life skill!). Students spend one full “Experience Week” focusing on P3, culminating in our P3 Expo. In this session, you will learn about our P3 program, as well as JST, and discover how you might bring something similar to your learning environment.
