Dr. Mary Marks

Barrington CUSD 220
Teacher Librarian
Hough Street School
For the past 30 years, I have been employed by Barrington 220 as a K-12 licensed school library information specialist. My library and classroom teaching experiences as a middle and high school social studies/history teacher have led to instructional and field study partnerships with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, National Geographic, the Field Museum, Illinois Geographic Alliance Institute, and the Library of Congress. Since 2004, I have been an adjunct instructor for Dominican University’s School of Information Studies teaching required coursework for school library licensure. My strengths lie in curriculum design particularly the development of curricular units emphasizing the integration of information literacy and technology into core content areas for regular and gifted education. My doctoral research (PhD Instructional Technology) focused on problem-based learning and its role in the development of critical reading and technology skills through social studies instruction.
